Mesa Dual Rec: Recording with the slave out?

Has anyone here tried recording using the salve out direct into their interface and using cab sims? I've got an older mid 90's dual rec that I'd like to start recording with. Ideally I'd just get a mic and preamp but I can't afford anything till I'm out of school and back to work.

I've done that with my JP-2C with great results. Recording quiet might be tough that way on yours without a load box, though. My head has a switch that shuts the speaker output off, otherwise I'd be blasting pretty loud.

The slave out works well. Another option is that you can keep the cab connected but engage the effects loop and throw the output down to zero. Then run the effects send to your DAW input. This gives you the preamp of your rectifier, controlled by the channel master knob, and you can run power amp and IR sims for it.

So if I wanted to use my pedalboard I'd just have that between the effects send and the interface?
Also, how hot is the signal coming through the slave out? Would it be safe have my pedal board in between that and the interface? Or would I just have my board hooked up through the efects loop like normal?
