    Thanks for all the information guys. I actually have several Bose noise cancelling headphones but they are all bluetooth (would be too much delay I'd expect) and some corded QC20s (in ear). I'll take a look at some of the suggestions.

    If just for jamming and playing, any wired headphones that sounds good to you will work fine. Bluetooth could introduce noticeable latency, which would make them unusable for live monitoring.

    On the other hand, if you get into recording guitar tracks and mixing, and want decent results, then Bose products and anything with noise cancelling should probably be avoided. You want a headphone (and/or monitors) that will reproduce your source audio faithfully and not exaggerate any part of the EQ too much. Just my 2 cents.

    seriously there are a ton of free metal vsts out and about. I would go reaper and get a few of those.

    They are amazing for the Noise Canceling. Cant live without them anymore, especially at work. The new Sony Noise Canceling phones are also amazing(if not even better) but you cant beat the comfort of the BOSE ones.
