I swear this is the last NGD this year.
I've always really dug Meshuggah(especially their later more drudgey stuff). But before them I was always into the more extended range guitars. Got my first Universe back in 1990.
Wasn't really planning on this but I was looking for another 8 and found this "scratch and dent" model for a couple bills less. All I could find wrong is that it was missing one of the locking nut pads. $200 off for a missing $5(if even that) piece? Sure!
This thing is fucking massive! 29.4" scale. Makes my 6'4" self feel really small. And it sounds like it looks. Big and dark. The Lundgren M8 is suppose to be in the PAF realm. Sounds really defined and punchy. Really top notch low mids. I'm sure the scale and the ash body help out in that area too. Super thin neck with very little taper to the profile. It's about .790" at the first fret(yay for titanium rods!). And the profile is a very flat U. Feels great in my hands. Set it up with a set of .065 thru .009s. That's what they come with so I figured I'd keep that gauge going. Really good tension with the scale. Took very little set-up to get it how I like it. Along with a little bit of fret-end treatment, which I expected. Also happy I got one with a darker board. I can't remember what the wood is(not rosewood because of the whole CITES deal) but I've seen some that look pretty light and dry.
Definitely not a very shred friendly guitar but that's not really it's intended purpose.
The only thing I might change is maybe strip the back of the neck and stain it black and then oil it. Just to get the whole thing blacker then black.
After playing this for a bit I'd really like to try the Prestige version to see what makes it sell for $6K!
