If you dont require the Gibson name on the headstock, I have heard quality is nice on the Epi version of that V.

I'm leery of Epis ever since I played some truly awful Epi Thunderhorse Explorers

Too much knowledge leads to confusion
Too many guitar lessons lead to jazz-fusion

Gibson has put out quite a few SG Customs from the Custom Shop, but not only are the prices insane, they're almost all reissues of the original 1961 version. These have the flimsy neck join that Gibson spent the next decade trying to correct. The '61 SG/Les Pauls have horrible neck dive due to the upper strap pin placement and no sustain on the upper frets due to the lack of any heel underneath.

I'd love a "modern" SG Custom that takes the specs from my 2011 50th Anniversary edition (24 frets, modern SG neck heel) but adds ebony and blocks.

Oh well, I'm certain there's not enough demand for it, anyway.
