USPS tells me the bone nut should be here today. My BKP Abraxas bridge pickup should be here sometime next week.

None of the local shops have a Tusq nut, so I'll probably order one online.

So, I'm going to hold off on doing anything until I can do it all at once.

    Speaking of bloody nuts...

I was laying down bass tracks this morning and really getting into it. Then, when I was done, I set the bass down and reached for some water and saw blood all over my left index finger... looked a little closer and realized I was bashing it into the edge of the nut when I was jumping back to the first fret. The nut corner is pointier than all my others - can I just file that down (carefully)?

You mean just that outside corner? I would think so, sure.

Installed the nut this weekend and I'm waiting on my pickup. I threw some cheap strings on it to do a setup for now (the photo with the two strings was just me kind of holding the nut in place while the glue dried.

Things went fairly well, right up until the end. Removal of the nut (using the hacksaw method) was pretty simple, although I probably took more care than I needed to. Sanding / fitting the new nut and installation was smooth. I think it looks fairly clean.

However, as I was assembling, after all of my care and patience, I broke my fucking truss rod cover. It was one of those "car accidents are most likely to happen within 1/4 mile of home" moments. I guess I just wasn't watching what I was doing at that point.

Well... that's the way of things. But man, I was pissed off - over a piece of plastic.
