    Did you totally removed the Finish on the Neck? You should have no problems staining for real Maple wood. If you still haven't finished it try the Tea/Vinager/Steel Wool mix, let it sink and really make the wood looking like old and then stain it again.

    Yeah, I completely sanded it down before going this route. I'm not trying to make the neck look aged, but more just black/open pour-ish finish like this:



    Although, that video gives me lots of ideas for the next one. Thx!

    You will never have that Finish Look. That look is achieved because of the natural wood grain and veins, that Maple does not have them You can fake it of course, but I'm also pretty sure you can darken the Neck even more. Go to a Supplies store and check their Wood paints/stains.
