    Looking for a recording bass

It was probably Matt's bass thread that got me going on this, but while I do have an Ibanez SR500 sitting right behind me, it's my wife's, and I'd kinda like something for myself.

Budget is ~$600, but I'm willing to spend more for a nice piece. Thicker neck for sure. 4 string is plenty. Two pickups is cool, since I haven't really played much bass, and I don't know where *my tone* will end up, so variety is a plus. I'm going for somewhere around the Hammer Of The North tone, and whatever is going on in this Overkill song...

But yeah, I think what I'm looking for, wanting, is a G&L L2000.

I sent this fella a message, but apparently he's stuck in LA under quarantine, and can't get to the bass right now.

And this is damn near what Matt just picked up, eh?

The spector Legends are under a grand and pretty sweet sounding. I have this one and I like it. it was $900 new, so you can prob get one used in your price range:

I also had the less expensive version for a short period and liked it as well:

Those G&L basses sound fantastic. Versatile, too.

    Soapbars > Jazz > PJ > P-pickups IMO

Unless we're talking actives with no poles, then I think they're all in the same area code. But a traditional P style pickup sounds WAY too bright and clicky for my tastes.

    +1 on a P/J Spector

Also check out either the Schecter Diamond J Plus. I got the 5 string and it's a monster.
