    I do not notice a difference with new bass strings. Now guitar strings, that is a different ballgame. I always change them and there is a huge difference in brightness.
    Do you use round or flat wound strings? I'm assuming round. How often do you change them to not notice any difference? Could just be they weren't dead when you changed them.
