After getting my last Charvel So Cal mutt, switching out the neck for the one from my San Dimas, I now had a brand new neck going spare, and an old San Dimas body (which i've sanded back to bare wood and oiled, but kinda given up on...)
The obvious solution was to put the new neck on my San Dimas body but then I spotted this on eBay...
On the left shows how I purchased it - a SQUIER neck on a MIM So Cal body (SACRILEGE!!) and a poorly modified pickguard (they've cut around the neck pocket and the Floyd route with, what looks like, their own teeth)
On the right is how I'm modding it - Taking the black hardware off for the chrome (from the San Dimas), and I've got a black 3-ply pickguard on its way.
Eventually it'll look like this
Sort of like a hot-rodded Gilmour strat I guess, even though that wasn't the intension
Undecided as to whether to swap the black Hotrails for a white one just to complete the theme... I'll see how it looks when it's all on.
As you can see on the mock-up I'm taking the 1st tone out and replacing for a mini-toggle for coil splitting. That + the 5-way switch will make for an unbelievably versatile guitar!
