My go-to's are still the Suhr Aldrich, or if you want tighter still, and something a bit more unique, Bill Lawrence L500XL.

I would think an easily available Custom or Custom 5 would give you the low end you want.

    Duncan Custom
    Or
    Super Distortion

Both should get you where you want to go.

Certainly a Distortion, or Pegasus can do it. As far as the poles being off on the JB, it isn't a big deal, as the pickup is powerful enough to 'hear' the strings even if a little off.

So I got the Suhr Aldrich and at first, I instantly regretted it. After 5+ hours working on my guitar (I also installed a 37mm brass block on my floyd and had to grind down the shim under the nut), I got it re-stringed, tuned up and was immediately disappointed. The pickup seemed off in more ways than one. Pinch harmonics were waaaay harder than on my duncan JB and the output was not that great. I know I wired it the same way I did my JB. I figured this pickup was not the one for me. But something kept nagging at me. I read what you all said here, looked at other forums, watched more videos. So I figured that I had to have done something wrong. So I bypassed the series/parallel DPDT switch that was on my guitar and wired it normally. HOLY FUCKING SHIT this thing came alive. It was everything everyone told me and more. A better version of the JB!!!! I totally love this thing now. I recorded a short clip. Its from a cell phone so it sounds awful.....and my playing is awful but here you go:
