I'm a bit confused on the amp... I'm including a pic of the back of my amp (Peavey 6505+).

I think it has stereo capability (?) because it has 2 jacks (though I normally use one and plug into the mono jack on the cab).

Am I correct in my thinking?

No, it can run 2 full cabs so it has 2 jacks, it is NOT stereo. Make sure to flip that switch to 4 ohm not 16.

If the cabinet says Mono 16 ohms, why wouldn't I have the amp on 16 ohms?

    Thanks

Double check how its wired, since the speakers you have to put in are 16 ohm, I suggest you wire it mono 4 ohm

The other speakers may have been other values since it said 400w, its a mono/stereo cab for a different amp. For your head with the new speakers (16 ohm each) and a 6505 head, 4 is the way to go. You can find a wire harness for cheap, and its better than not being sure.
