    Question regarding a Gotoh TOM...

    GE103B

I was looking at this Gotoh TOM to put on my Gretsch and every shop I find it on describes the saddles as pre slotted, but in the pictures on Gotoh's site the slots look really small and shallow...

Has anyone tried these and do the saddles still need to be slotted properly, or are the existing slots enough?

There's a light central guide slot but they do need to be slightly tweaked to grab the bass strings. I normally leave the treble e and b as they are and cut the other string slots as little as possible.

If you pick one up, care to take pictures of it? I'm looking at picking up an AS103B-T but cant find any pics other than Gotoh's site

Ah ha, I had a feeling that might be the case. I don't really have the proper tools for it, but someone posted these a while ago as a cheap alternative for guitar work:

FILE SET [12 ROUND AND 1 FLAT FILE] FREE POSTAGE | eBay

Do you think they'll be enough to get the job done? Or (and this might sound stupid!) do you think I might be able to get away with using a guitar string to work the slot enough?

@Max, yeah sure I'll try to get some pics, but it might be a while before I get around to ordering it.

I've got those files and believe they should get the job done, despite being low quality. Make sure to fine sand the slot down afterwards and make it smooth (I heard that using a pencil, B-grade or fatter, will lube the slot and keep the strings intact).

My guess is you won't get away with using a guitar string.
