Enlarging strap holes for Schaller strap locks

I know a lot of folks prefer Dimarzio strap locks over Schaller's, but I've had a pair of Schaller's laying around for a long time and just recently decided to put them on my Schecter...

The only thing I don't like about Schaller locks is that the threaded shafts are just too large for the standard size strap holes. So I decided to enlarge my strap holes to accomodate the Schaller's. I wanted to do it as neatly as possible, so this is how I did it... (Decided to take some pics and share, just on the off-chance that anybody else might find this useful.)

I centered the Schaller washer over the strap hole, then tightly clamped it down to a scrap piece of wood on a good clampable work surface. The key to making a clean cut is just keeping the strap from moving..

A 3/8" drill bit is the same size as the Schaller washer hole...

Newly drilled hole on the left... yet to be drilled hole on the right...

Strap hole is still tight, but now fits much better...

    Ready to go... \m/

Nice work. I love Schallers. I usually just use a pair of scissors to clip the corner off the slit above the holes in the leather Levy's I always buy. Not nearly as neat but takes seconds and I've never had any issues.

This is what I do, too. Not as clean, but no one sees it underneath the washer.

    So live for today,
    Tomorrow never comes.
    Die young, die young,
Can't you see the writing in the air?
    Die young, gonna die young,
    Someone stopped the fair.
