I've taken a long break from guitar for various reasons over the last 5 years. While I still played often, I wasn't as into it as I was growing up and my abilities definitely took a hit. This year I'm really schooling myself on scales/modes and technique. At 37 and playing for 26 years, I should be able to tear it up all over the neck in every key, every scale, but that's definitely not the case. I need to get away from E and D minor.

I've fallen back in love with Eric Johnson and outside of just his lead work, his chord work just blows my mind. Between that and learning the neck better I expect to see some serious improvement in my songwriting skills and overall approach to playing.

Huh... I suddenly learned how to sweep-pick. I've previously always alternate picked all arpeggios, which limited the speed possible to achieve quite a lot. Maybe I now have a chance to learn Altitudes!
