So I bought this on Friday.
I'd been thinking about a winter commuter for a while , as road salt, dirt and subzero temperatures wreak havoc on the drivetrain of my cyclocross. So I found this (barely) used Kona Unit with some upgraded parts for sale and thought I 'd go for it.
Impressions so far is that it's a really fun bike - the ride is very smooth due to the big wheels, it's not heavy either despite its steel frame. I still need to add some things to it, e.g. proper mudguards - commuting in the fall/winter without those is dirty business. I also might need to get a longer seat post, and perhaps change the gear ratio a bit. So far I haven't run into a hill here that feels heavy with this gear ratio, while the top speed is a bit limited. I'll probably wait until we get some snow to decide what to do about that.
