...Oktoberfestmärzen refuses to be cancelled! :tmm:

This one is Augustiner's, running in at 6.3%ABV.

Prost!

Covid has got me missing my frequent trips to Germany. Normally fly into Stuttgart and rehearse near Geislingen, all I've wanted during Lockdown has been the Kaiser-Brau from the local brewery, which is impossible to get over here. I've had to settle for Paulaner which is good, but no substitute.

I've actually moved away from Wiesse, I'm not really sure why. I used to be a lot more keen on it but recently a decent Hell is what I'm after. What I lkve most about touring in Germany is that each town gives you the local brew, so it becomes as much about trying new beer as gigging. Although obviously later in the night it all just becomes 'another beer'.

That's the most German beer name ever. It'd be like an American beer named like Bald Eagle Scrotum Brew.
They don't f*ck about with names there, the angrier sounding the better. Even the German word for Butterfly sounds like an angry insult or a surgical instrument.

:agreed:

I've also got more into Helles recently, having always been a wheat-beer fan.

Mostly, though, I'm about the crazy flavour explosion one gets with some beers. Aventinus is a simple way of demonstrating that. Then there's the whole food-pairing rabbithole...

I am always trying new brews as I run into them (I frequent specialist stores), and I too miss gigging around the place (never made a tour happen) as a way of having that great experience of turning up somewhere where the beer is surprisingly good.

As Blankplank quite rightly says, "Schmetterling" is the word for "butterfly", but "schmettern" is the verb to smash or shatter. Turns out the etymology is different, though: the origin is "schmetten", a Slavic word for cream, which butterflies (believed to be shape-shifting witches) were suspected of stealing from livestock. So either way, butterflies are metal as fuck, as we all know:

I've had a few blueberry pastry stouts as daft as thst May sound. They tend to get a bit syrupy unless they are milk stouts but at tge right time verily tasty. If you like fancy desert stouts this place is hard to beat:
Very pricey though
I looooooove that sort of beer! I've had a breakfast stout or two with blueberries in (though not for breakfast!). Shall have to search it out. Doesn't sound daft at all, I guess this is my new hobby: trying to find the silliest beers possible!

AUGUSTINER ÜBER ALLES
It is an awesome brewery. Apparently, they've done no advertising at all for decades, yet continue to expand. :metal: And they're not owned by "big beer", either. "stickin' it to da man", as Jack Black would say. Shitty trends in beer/nanny-state regs have tragically led to their Heller Bock (a very strong, blonde beer) now only being sold in 0.33l bottles for the last couple of years, which is wholly unacceptable if one is thirsty. :pissed:
