    Shrubs

Spring is upon us, which means we are rapidly approaching fru-fru cocktail season. If you're looking for something different, these are fucking delicious. Take equal parts fruit and sugar, mix, leave in the fridge for a day or so, then strain off the juice and sugar and add it to an equal amount of apple cider vinegar (E.G. 1 cup fruit, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup vinegar). You'll be left with a syrup that will last a frighteningly long time and will get better as it ages. Out of everything I've tried so far, strawberries have been the best, but there is a ton of room to experiment.

    For cocktails, I use:

.5-1 oz shrub syrup depending on how sweet I want it

    1 oz spiced rum

    1 oz whiskey

fill to top with soda water (or unsweetened black iced tea, which is actually fucking incredible. Just tried this tonight and vastly prefer it)

    squeeze of lime

Kidding aside, cool. A colleague of mine is kind of a hippie and swears by this stuff, too.

Sounds delicious, especially with iced tea
