Spring is upon us, which means we are rapidly approaching fru-fru cocktail season. If you're looking for something different, these are fucking delicious. Take equal parts fruit and sugar, mix,leave in the fridge for a day or so, then strain off the juice and sugar and add it to an equal amount of apple cider vinegar (E.G. 1 cup fruit, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup vinegar). You'll be left with a syrup that will last a frighteningly long time and will get better as it ages. Out of everything I've tried so far, strawberries have been the best, but there is a ton of room to experiment.
For cocktails, I use:
.5-1 oz shrub syrup depending on how sweet I want it
1 oz spiced rum
1 oz whiskey
fill to top with soda water (or unsweetened black iced tea, which is actually fucking incredible. Just tried this tonight and vastly prefer it)
squeeze of lime
