    Greetings all

    Hi all,

Just thought that I'd say hi from Rhode Island. I first started out playing metal guitar in my teens before transitioning to classical and flamenco for the last 30 years. Anyhow, I'm feeling that itch to start playing some metal again and figured I'd start researching guitars/amps and gain some expertise and insight from the community.

    Cheers,

    Emile

Thank you for the suggestions! There are a lot of les paul models out there. Any specific one? That Ibanez looks nice too and isn't too crazy on the wallet. What is the 5150 amp (i.e. who makes it)? I've certainly heard good things about mesa boogie over the years.

    Thanks,

    Emile

    Peavey 5150.

Actually, for a solid primer on all things metal guitar and metal amp tones, do a deep dive into Ola Englund's Youtube channel.

Here he is coping Gojira tones with a 5150...

Here he is with a Mesa Tremoverb Rectifier...

The key is that he records *stellar* audio, so you get a really solid idea of how the amps are supposed to sound. No crappy phone/webcam videos, only HD with HD audio
