    Quick Tip: Click Track

Passing this along so maybe this will help others. Like many of you, I'm using Reaper for my DAW but it's metronome functionality is a little lacking in some ways. You can get more than quarter notes if you trick it using a single tap delay but what if you need something else? I wanted to tighten up my rhythms in my SAWC Week 8 challenge but the rhythm was triplets. What to do?

As it turns out, the answer was using this website: Metronomer - Click Track Generator You specify the BPM, time signature, and beat length and it will generate a MP3 file click track. Once you have that, import it into your Reaper project as a media file and place it into a track. Voila!

There might be additional options on the web but this definitely worked for me last night.

But that means it's just an audio file right?

It's not a REAL clicktrack? That you for example can use time aligned delays with, or edit song parts etc?

That's correct- It's an audio file you place on the track rather than Insert->Click Source which does have some options.

I guess I feel the advantage of this method is that the audio clip is trimmed to the proper length and there isn't a need to otherwise quantize it. Originally I was thinking about connecting my iPhone to one of my DI's inputs and then recording a section of audio using my metronome app. The problem would be that I would have to cut up the track and quantize it to make sure the start is spot on, etc. This way, you get a decent clip quickly without too much fuss. Granted it won't work if you're tracking some 13/6 Dream Theater but should be good otherwise.
