So question the whole desk here is asking, why didn't you guys pull your keeper on that last penalty kick? You were down a man, out of stoppage time, and losing by one so it was basically that play or nothing, and the dude's pretty tall. Was there some rule that prevents that?

Hell of a game. Hoping you guys would have pulled it off at the end there.

Hoping France win it now just because Hugo is the one remaining Spurs player left.

...What? Did I fall asleep during the game for a second, what penalty kick? Possibly asking why Pickford didn't run up for a free kick or a corner? I mean there's nothing in the rules that says the keeper can't do that, but then see Son's Goal vs Germany and you'll see that it's fraught with risk as goalkeepers are not as good offensively as other players.

Yeah, I'm a yankee, it's probably called something other than a penalty, when it's not a shot on goal with just you and the goalie.

Still, while that all makes sense, when you're shorthanded, down by 1, facing sudden death, and you're basically out of stoppage time... I'd think an extra body alone would be worth it.

To be fair, I thought that about this game, and look how that turned out. <img src="https://www.metalguitarist.org/forum/images/smilies/laugh.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Laugh" class="inlineimg" /> I kinda feel obligated to root for Croatia now. They've just been so indomitable. I think it very much depends on the keeper really, some will get up there in the dying seconds of a game, Neuer did it earlier in the tournament rather disastrously and I remember Casper Schmeichel's dad doing it and getting some last minute wundergoals. But it's not really a common thing because I expect they probably feel they'll be more of a hinderance than a help in those situations, better it fall to someone who can head the ball with a degree of accuracy than someone who's just gunna send it wide.

I think Kyle Walker was at fault in both goals Croatia scored. A real centre back would have been able to clear in both situations.

Yeah, can't say I miss his brain farts since we sold him to City. He's been shaky all tournament, not sure I get why he was played out of position either.

I guess Southgate wanted a centre back with some recovery pace, since I guess neither Stones nor Maguire are known for being quick. Should have gotten Rio Ferdinand in, he's got it all - he's quick, he's fast and he's got pace.
