  1. Music: Other Instruments
I just got this in on Saturday and have only played it a total of 20 minutes so far but this is the first fanned fret instrument I've ever owned and I can see the appeal. I got this from a dude in Florida with too many basses for a steal of a price. I've always been a fan of Bartolini pickups...

But in case anyone is interested here.... brief & Accurate Description of gear/guitar: Ibanez RGIM8MH-Wk Modifications (if any): none Accessories (hardshell case etc): none Location (City,State or City,Country): Glasgow...

I've got 2 guitars that need some fret work, and I don't want to pay to have them done, but the damn tools are expensive. What do you guys recommend I buy so that I'm not overdoing it?

My old RG 550 has seen better days - it had issues with the pots and 5 way being scratchy as hell and since I haven't been playing it all for quite a while the frets were fairly oxidized I thought I would do something about it and try fret erasers. I picked up the Hosco set with 180, 400 and...

Had a buddy of mine asking about a guitar he was looking at picking up that needed some fretwork done, potentially. I've leveled and recrowned more guitars than I'd care to remember but he sent me pics of the guitar he was looking and and I was like "goddamn, I have no idea how people do this"...

I received my 2018 Gibson Les Paul Jr. today. Overall, the guitar looks good - although I really need to get it home and do a proper inspection. I'll post pics sometime soon. I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed in the fret ends. The frets are not proud of the fretboard, but the ends...

I just noticed, and I've never really even given this much though, but when I fret my fingers are very close if not damn near touching the next fret up. I guess this is something I've always subconsciously done. Would this give a slight advantage to us bitchpickers for speed since we are...

Took my trusty SZ320, which has never had a single issue in the 10 years I've owned it and changed strings yesterday. I was using 11-56 but switched back to a regular LTHB 10-52 because my wrists are shot lately. Get all the strings on and in tune, start dicking around, hit the 6th fret on my...

So, I've noticed thi9s evening that my old trusty PWH has issues when fretting the first fret, messed about with action, and much the same problem, raising the bridge doesn't solve it, putting more or less bow in the neck also doesn't have much effect. I can get rid of it by setting action much...

PICTURES! Sorry for the blurry picture, but this is always a GOOD sign; a near perfect reflection on all frets is equal to a great fucking playing guitar. I suspect NO leveling or fretwork is needed... Not surprised tho, Warmoth often do a GREAT job with seating the frets. TO THE POINT...

when i play it, it kinda frets out and kinda plays two notes at once. i's really weird. is it being caused by the frets themselves or is the neck just needing an adjustment?

30 seconds into the project I had ruined the neck and cut my thumb with the knife :pissed: I'm glad I never ordered the 24 fretboard. How do people even change fretboards?

Fret Polishing Rubber Erasers 1000 Grit Set of 2 - Philadelphia Luthier Tools & Supplies, LLC These things are friggin' AWESOME. They're easier to use than the Dunlop micofiber fret polishing cloth, don't clog up as quickly, and the frets come out just as smooth and shiny.
  18. Guitar: Theory & Playing
This was something I noticed over the weekend, for some reason, and have started thinking about - when you play a trill, do you start the trill with a hammer-on or a pull off? For example, if you're trilling on the D string between the open D and a 2nd fret E, do you start the trill by picking...

Hi am just wondering, on a guitar does it matter to you whether if the fret markers are symmetrical between the D and G strings? Say if I have a guitar that's got fret markers that are closer to the D strings and not so 'centred' would it affect its value?

Some people say that you wanna "try out" guitars before buying but at my local music store it's like impossible to make any conclusion if they are any good... And while that is important, even guitars with specs you like can feel "off", for some weird reason. I like my 25.5" scale guitars with...
