Worth it for a few hundred to fuck around with? I see they pop up pretty cheap now and then, and Warmoth also makes parts for them too (300 and 500, I think).
The older one sounds more piezo-y, but still not bad. Both sound like shit on 12-string and dobro, neither of which I'd use that much...
Damn, I finally got around to firing up the DC-5, and as someone (Noodles? Mike?) mentioned, boost the mids on the regular EQ, then scoop on the graphic EQ........Holy. Shit. Awesome sound is awesome!
I can't believe I hadn't tried this before, though I'm generally afraid to fuck with my EQ...
I saw one at GC today, and it caught my eye. 5 watts, 2 12ax7's and an EL84, 10" speaker, actually made in the UK. I didn't have time to play it though.
I wasn't even aware of these, yet they're damn cheap; $399 I think.
The infamous Alvarez Dana Scoop. Took out the crappy licensed Floyd from whomever made the crap and put in a real one. Other than that, completely stock with original hardcase for a cool $350. Pretty good shape, too.
