So I literally found this Crown XLS 402 power amp next to a dumpster yesterday. No idea if it works, but it does power up. The only use for it I can find with my current gear is to run my POD HD desktop into it. However, it has XLR inputs, two bare wire outputs, and 1 Speakon output. So how...

For my RG2228 project I have to insert the new posts which when inserted will trap a ground wire in the hole. So I wanted to grab a tough wire such as those normally as used on as ground bare wire. Basically I'm worried that as I insert a copper wire it will snap and I'll be left having to yank...

Hi, I wanted to install a push-pull tone pot on my Sterling JP70 to split the humbuckers, but I was thinking about the switching of my Ibanez guitars and the one thing I like is the 2nd position of the 5-way switch where the coils of the neck humbucker are switched parallel. Now - as opposed...

  8. Guitar: Pickups Discussion
Quick question, hypothetically if you want to switch from active pickups to passive I know you need new pots and stuff, but what about the bridge ground wire? Passive pickups have a ground wire hooked up to the bridge don't they? So say your guitar came installed with active pickups and doesn't...

The fret wire I have bought usually came pre-radiused. The radius didn't match my fingerboard radius, but it deformed enough to match while being pressed into place. However, the fretboard wood doesn't always have enough bite to keep the fret from lifting (it wants to return to it's original...

I had a Peavey 4x12 Black Widow cabinet back in the 80's. It would "electrify" the air, and you could feel the sound as much as you could hear it. I've never found anything since that had this effect. Unfortunately, I completely wore out the speakers. In fact, we opened it up to check them out...

To celebrate their first birthday, Red Wire is giving away 777 impulses of a Marshall 1960A G12M-25 cab. For those of you who are unfamiliar with them, they sell professionally recorded impulse responses of cabs made with a flat solid state power amp to get a more pure representation of the...

If one were wrap the pickup bobbin(s) with shielding tape, and use shielded conductor wires, would it be necessary to shield the pickup cavity? The control cavity would still need to be shielded though.

Couldn't decide if this should go here or in Gear; pickups go on the guitar, so I thought I'd go for this forum. Anyone have good sources/deals on 42 gauge wire? My dad has been building little cigar box guitars and wants to try winding his own three-string pickups. I know nothing about pickup...
