So, my brother's getting married, and I've been asked to "DJ" the wedding, as well as play a song or two, mainly their first dance, which will be to Oasis' "Wonderwall" since it's their song. The song has special memories for me as well, and so I've put together this cover of it. It's still got a bit of tweaking needed (possibly a couple of vocal fixes, maybe a bit of tweaking of the mix of the vocals, and I might see about getting a guest vocalist to re-track the harmonies if I can, as I think it would sound cool with female vocals there). Anyways, let me know what you think of it, it kind of flowed out in a few hours.

Sounds great! It needs the cello line in the verse though :D

Some harmonies in the chorus would definitely help.

Also, you might want to rerecord the vocal bit around 2:27. I like how you changed it up from the original, but there are a couple of clams there pitchwise :(

Yeah, definitely some things I was thinking, I kind of mimicked the cello line in the intro with the effects-drenched-ebow-guitar  And yeah, some pitchy parts near the end are the parts I was thinking need the most fixing.

If my electric cello wasn't in New Jersey right now, I would totally track that for you. :(

We used to do that one in my cover band, and the second guitar player would play bass while I swapped for cello.

couple vocal bits like has already been said need fixing, the instrument tracking sounds great. i think the mix would benefit from that piano part being lower in the mix or heavily reverbed. Also the very end part the vocals seem a little less powerful than they should ie: maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me. that part should really drag on, maybe a second set of vocals behind to hold that last word of each line ie: maybeeeeeeeeeeeeee, you're gonna be the one that saves meeeeeeeeeeeee

while keeping the current vocal track that already exists. does that make sense?

Even though there are the things to address that others had said, I think you did a really good job. It isn't easy to make a cohesive song when you have to record and write all the parts. You did a really good job.

I used to hate Oasis, and at the time this song was out, I was all, "Garggghh! This isn't Dream Theater or Toto or Steve Vai, this is bland talentless rubbish". I'm so glad to have grown up and realised the silliness of that sort of attitude. So, given that, I approached with a little caution; even though I've totally gotten over that attitude, I still don't dig this song. It has a special place in my 'hate' folder :D

That said, your cover of it is fucking awesome. I'd say don't change a thing about it. The very fact it's not completely pitch perfect totally fits with the vibe of not only the song and this particular performance, but also the whole indie scene of that period. And we're only talking a tiny bit of a shaky performance. I expected more of a howler when I read Josh's post before hearing it (no offence to Josh intended, it just made me expect the worst).

Anyhow, as ever, I'm completely jealous of your overall sound, and now of the fact you can sing really well, too.

I tend to critique Aaron's stuff a little more harshly since I know he can fix it :yesway:

Thanks man, you're only echoing my own internal nitpicking anyways  As I said, most of what's been said in this thread is what I was planning on tweaking anyways, it's just nice to get an extra set of ears or two on it to let me know I'm not crazy, especially since I have had a problem with "over-fixing" in the past and ruining the magic in recordings. Mostly, I'm at a point with it where it'll be a bit before I can make the finishing touches (still have to see if my guest vocalist is interested, she'd be doing some stuff on my song "Catalyst" and some other interesting things for my album too if she's up for it) and wanted to share, since I'm pretty proud of what I've got so far. And I really respect you guys and your opinions, and I know you're less likely than most forums to dive straight into "IT FUCKING SUCKS!!!! RAHRAHRAHRAHRAH!!!!"

Thanks for all the comments everyone

I just checked this out and I must say that is a damn fine cover. Bravo, Aaron. This song brings back so many memories, man. I can't help but love it.

Any critique I would give would just be echoes of previous posts so I will just shut the hell up. But I had to say that you did a great job. The wedding guests, not to mention your bro and his fiancee, are a lucky bunch. Good luck tweaking this to perfection. If you're as much the nitpicker you say you are, it should be an interesting journey lol.
