I've been playing it for a few days. It is very atmospheric at times, and actually gave me a few good scares. The story is pretty interesting, and I love the whole Twin Peaks-y small town with a dark presence in the woods thing. Some of the graphics look very dated and the character animation (especially faces) is pretty bad at times, which kind of breaks the mood sometimes. But the scenery is seriously gorgeous at times, and the fog effects are just awesome. Good game so far. :yesway:

Ah, read or heard a dodgy preview then. It definitely looks like AITD... Same engine, maybe?
It seems to have its own engine too. Or that's the conclusion I came to after a quick google search. So I guess it's just a coincidence (this game's been in development for ages, so I don't think they've ripped of anything).

I've only played the original "Alone in the Dark" from '94 or something, so I can't really comment on the new one. ;)

That is becoming more and more rare since using a pre-existing engine can greatly speed up development time. I wonder if they are planning on releasing their engine for other companies to use?

Ok, this game is cool as hell. I just finished Episode One.

Basically, you play through a nightmare, and it's narrated by Wake as he's writing a book. So as you walk through, say, some woods, he talks to himself saying "I was walking through the woods, looking to find a gas station. There has to be a phone there."

It's basically like playing through a horror novel. The combat system is (at a glance) pretty decent. You fry "shields" made of darkness on bad guys with your flashlight, then you shoot them in the face. :yesway:

Atmosphere is awesome, game is definitely spooky, and there's a plot twist already at the first chapter that I just finished.

I'm diggin' it.

Getting back into this after being sidetracked by RDR. Just finished chapter 2. I like it, but I think I'll be picking away at it here and there instead of playing right through it.

As a lot of people have said, it's good, but a lot of the creepiness goes away when the fog/slow-mo shit happens every time an enemy pops up. Would be a lot spookier without it. The story, on the other hand, is (imo) extremely interesting.

I finished it a few days ago. It's a good game, though not five-years-in-development good. The story is pretty cool, and as a huge Twin Peaks fan I really dig the setting. The action-y bits sort of reminded me of Resident Evil 4, but way less awesome

Yes! :metal:

There's a scene in the third chapter of this game where you're in sort of a mental institution, and the doctor introduces you to two old dudes. Their story is that they were in a viking metal band in the 70's, and one of the guys has a plastic "war" hammer squeaky-toy that he runs around hitting people with.

That's the vibe I'm getting too. It's fun, but man, I don't think I've played a game this linear in a long time.

Barry rules though.

Finished.

Cliffhanger ending is kinda meh, and the tornado "boss" should have been about 300% harder. Also finished with 49 kills with the flare gun, FML.

Decent game, tragically linear, but still worth playing. Lookin' forward to the DLC.

Also, Atrace, this is why you have to play this game. It literally has your name all over it! :D

(Pardon pics of my monitor, wish I could take screenshots with the 360..)

I just finished chapter one and it it definitely creepy as hell with an interesting plot. The atmosphere in the nightmare scenes reminds me a bit of the first Bioshock with the low lighting and enemies that appear out of nowhere.

Overall it looks like a solid game, and it will be the first time in about a week and a half that I haven't been playing RDR 6 hours a day. :D
