I'm looking for a bridge pickup that has the percussive power and clarity of an EMG 81 with maybe a little bit fuller sound.

I'm not interested in anything that sounds like a JB.

The DiMarzio D-Activators do a good job of getting the active sound with more color.

Right? BKPs kinda' make the same sound regardless of how you play. Mine responds in an almost digital manner to p.mutes.
I assume you don't mean that of every pickup they make.

Painkiller/Aftermath is the obvious "active sound in a passive pickup" choice. The PK is very focused in the upper mids, while the Aftermath is a bit more even I think. The MM is more low-mid grunty, but quite hot and compressed. None of these sound like they've ever been in the same room as Jeff Beck.
