I'm a bedroom guitarist only and I'm happy with that. I had a blackstar id:core 10. It sounded good but it died and now I have taken a step back and realized it did sound a bit digital. So now i'm shopping again....my budget is no more than $230.To give you an idea:I play lot of high gain stuff. I'm 47 yeqrs old and I'm starting to get into lower gain stuff too. I really don't want another Blackstar so this is what I have been looking at....
1. Thought about getting used an older pod
2. I also looked at pod farm and getting a line 6 ux1 but seems out dated and to get the good stuff I would have to pay $300 for the platnium which is beyond my budget.
3. Boss gt-1
4. zoom g3n
5. always liked the orange crush 35r ....its almost under my budget with a good musicians friend coupon
6 also recently discovered the boss katana50 ( lot of mixed reviews on the one)
7. positive grid....I had bias amp before i got my ipad stolen and this was by far the best i have ever heard, but that was on an ipad and im sleptical if it would sound just good on a pc.
These are my options I'm considering. which would give me the best quality? If I get the gt-1/g3n/pod farm I will be using a bose single speaker with it. I'm looking at the pod farm yea but not sure.....which would you get? Which would be the best for home bedroom use at low volumes. Please help me decide and thank you.
Pod Farm was bad when it came out its even worse now.
If you want you can try Reaper and a couple of FREE VSTs on the PC/Mac. You will save money and will have a better sound than Pod Farm.
If you want to go Amp again, take a look at the Boss Katana 50, its costs about the budget you have or even less. You can also try to search for used and get better deals.
I'm disabled. I have been unable to work for a couple years now. Disability does not pay enough to even pay my bills so when I buy gear I don't have any extra cash or the ability to save up. I had to sell all my gear prior just to keep my apartment, things are really tough for me and I know I wont have the option on the future to buy more gear so i try to make the best decision possible. My amp died the other night and the only reason I can afford to replac3 it is because i got the extended warranty. Things are just really tough for me, when you lose your ability to work, along with it goes your self esteem so guitar is really all i have...when a guy loses their sense of worth being productive its really hard so thats why I take the time needed to buy what i want, i have to make sure its the best dexision because i know another chance will not be coming any time soon and being disabled I dont have the ability to go to the store to test the gear out so i have to rely on on opinions and youtube video.....Being my budget is $230 its hard to find the highest quality distortion at that pricw point. Makes it hard when your used to playing a tube amp then have to sell it to pay your bills so im trying to findn a modeling either amp or processor that will give me a high gain distortion with the warmth in a modeling technology.....just trying to do the best i can and find a way to be happy with the cards that i was delt....sometimes its just really tough.....
So now......I have narrowed it down to 1. Boss gt-1 2. Boss Katana or the orange crush 35rt.....
.the g-1 sounds good from the youtube videos that I have seen, but you never know how much color the mic adds.....I have always loved orange amps and their quality of distortion but since i dont have an overdrive pedal, nut sure i can get the gain that i seek and the katana sounds good but i have read how some people say the distortion isnt all that, but it's 12' speaker is quite appealing. The orange has a 10' speaker which would make me happy but the gt-1 would offer more versatility.....in a way im leaning towards the gt-1 but i would have to use an output sourse of my bose speaker and im not sure how it would sound.....
Another question I have is....with a processor like the gt-1 would a processor/modeler eliminate response you get on how you hit thew strings? I had one guy say they eliminate the response hoq you hit the strings, it would actuaLLY be good if it didbecaus3e im a sloppy play on how i pick the strings due to disability.....so i wonder if a processor would actually make my playing better in that regard
Can't speak to any of the options you're looking at, but on your budget, for bedroom use, I'd at least look at a Tech 21 Trademark 30. New they're out of your budget, used you should be able to find one though.
Adfter that, it LOOKS like the Boss Katana is based on the same basic idea, so I'd want to try one of those.
EDIT - this actually doesn't sound half bad. A little fizzy in some of the gain clips, but that may be how it's dialed in.
If you enjoyed your Blackstar, you won't like the Orange. And, I know you said you didn't want to stick with a 'Star but the ID:Core 100s are $199 these days. Way better amp than the 10s. You can also get a Core 40 for $149 new and that would leave you $70 to put towards a pedal or something (if the store will work with you in that manner).
I haven't even seen one of the Boss Katana's in a store, so no real life help for ya there.
Sorry life is rough for ya, but if you have the talent, skill and ability to make music and the gear to do it with, you're a rich man. It's all about perspective.
I can say that Positive Grid products sound just as good on PC as they do on your iDevice. The PC interface is quite good too. I'd recommend that, as long as your sound card can go low latency.
I have a hp laptop, so i need to buy an audio interface....I have a behringer interface, should i buy a better one or do they all do good enough job? I had a focusrite scarletter once but i idnt know if it was better than the behringer or not.....i dont have studio monitors, all i have is a single bose speaker will the amp sims sound good enough thru that?
