Hi, a while ago a was diagnosed with tinnitus, not that extreme or uncomfortable at the moment, just annoying on occasions.

What I have started to notice is that some days it is really noticeable in a traditional high pitch way and other days I have a deeper audible rumble and equally some days I hardly notice either.

My bad days do not seem to be related high db playing (although I wear ear protection), but seems to be more related to 'lifestyle' - in other words if I've had a stressful day, my tinnitus is bad.

Anyone else suffer this and what have done about it - any successes on how to deal with it and perhaps stop it getting any worse?

Sometimes, and it's only been the last few years, if I'm in a room or area with a lot of noise, I get this weird "cracking" sensation in my left ear.

It's not too bothersome right now, but definitely something I've noticed lately. I'm not too interested in it getting any worse.

I think its better you see the doctor for advice with this kind of stuff.

I totally agree and have an appointment with a specialist in two weeks - been referred by my own Doc.

So other than ear protection, what are you doing to stop it getting worse?
Ear damage, at this point in medical science, is usually completely irreparable. Someday they'll just grow you a new inner ear, but for now what's done is done.

You know the ringing sound you get after you experience extended periods of loud volumes? That's literally the sound of nerves dying in your ear, never to be replaced. Once you realize that, you wear ear plugs more often :D

I expect I'll have hearing damage some day as I've committed many aural sins myself, such as operating these for a few summers often without hearing protection:

Yeah, I've got a touch of it. Too many rehearsals/nights in clubs without ear plugs when I was younger, though I started wearing ear plugs religiously when I was about 22/23. It's getting worse lately, which I think is a result of working on the M25. I'm going to start wearing my ear plugs when I'm out on site now.

i got a smidge of it in my right ear only. Its pretty mild, and i can only hear in really quiet rooms.

You can always look at the upside like Paul Gilbert -- At least you always have a note to tune to

^:yesway: that's what I do. And for the OP, stress does affect my tinnitus. Stressful days makes it worse, mostly because you get tense when you stress I think. At least that's how it is with my condition.

I get a ringing every so often but it passes pretty quick. Consider myself fortunate given all the heavy equipment and machinery over the years. Learned my lesson and try to always have some earplugs around.

both my ears have multiple tones ringing on the constant. i was dumb early in life and didn't wear earplugs. i should have. I wear them all the time now when i'm around anything loud. At no time in the day is there not more than one tone ringing in my ears. sucks.

if you clean your earwax out will more than likely take care of the crackling

No, actually I enjoy it.

I have it a little bit, I've definitely abused my ears a bit in the past, but have been using earplugs religiously for about 6+ years (since joining my first band), and only pulling them out for the occasional show where I want to experience it full-force (i.e. Tool) or the sound's so bad that I can't hear shit with them in (i.e. Gigantour a couple years back)

I've never had a low hum in my ear, but I get a good loud high ringing in my left ear on a daily basis. It usually comes at about 2 PM every weekday and around 4-5 PM on weekends. No idea why it hold to that schedule, but it's almost like clockwork on weekdays.
