I'm thinking of getting a set for my PRS bari (mahogany, fixed bridge, 27.7" scale).

I love how the PAF Pro and FRED sound in my JS, which of course couldn't be a more different guitar (bolt-on, basswood, 25.5" scale).

Thoughts?

I was supposed to get a SD Custom 5 and '59 for it, but I my usual shop order it (no money down, which is how I got my PRS's from them actually) and they've become completely unresponsive, so fuck it; I'm getting something somewhere else I guess.

I have the combo in one of my guitars, and I absolutely love it. I can pretty much get pinch harmonics out of the neck pickup. You will not be disappointed.

For a baritone, i think a set of P-Rails would be really cool. If you want more of that baritone "twang" there are a couple of interesting options available, in addition to the humbucker tone.

I was thinking of that too, but maybe only the neck. I dunno. I'd have to play them in at least a regular guitar first before doing anything.

At least with the Dimarzios, I know what I'm dealing with. my JS has been my main player for 8 years now.

Aldrich :squint:

I like the PAF Joe, never played the Mo Joe. I think your initial Duncan choices sound pretty good, though I'd go for the Jazz over the '59 myself in the neck.

This. If I had a Mahogany guitar other than my 2027, PJ/MJ would be in it. SO much better (imo, of course) than the usual JB/59 setup.

Would you guys fucking believe that after several weeks, I get an email about it tonight at 6?

I will go ahead with the Custom 5 in the bridge, and probably the jazz in the neck, though perhaps I should see if I could find a local shop with that ESP that's got the P-Rails, and see how that sounds in the neck.

There's always the next baritone for the PJ/MJ combo. Perhaps a Warmoth baritone build.

I like to call it "low-mid roar."

And baris are pretty bright anyways with the extra scale length.

Ah shit. Maybe it's a bad idea then. Balls. Josh, I wouldn't say mine's that bright. Perhaps I will try it, and if I don't like it, it can always go in something else.
