They have had metal/ceramic composites for quite a while now (I know they make bicycle frames out of Aluminum/ceramic composite tubing... (Specialized metal matrix)

As for no shrink when cast some of the new metallic 3d printers actually do a very good job at this as well using bronze and stainless steel (excellent detail to boot)

These are not composites, though. And the near-net shape casting is pretty cool, it has to be part of their economic decision because even if the alloys are pricey, it will save them on machining and finishing costs big time. Machining cases out of solid aluminum billets is not el cheapo.
