The real trilogy. You play AC and then AC2 picks up right at the end, and then Brotherhood jumps in exactly where that ended. You could play them as one continuous game. Do the others add anything integral to the plot? No, since I've never played them and am not missing anything.

This series may suffer from too many expansions and adaptations, but the core 3 games so far are solid as hell and fairly consistent. If this is the final chapter that picks up where Brotherhood left off, it should be great. They don't need to do much tweaking of gameplay, features or graphics, just new plot developments.

And I doesn't need to be numbered, as I don't believe it will be introducing a new character. This should be focusing on Desmond and be the chapter he was preparing for with the other two stories within the story (Altairs and Ezios).

I just finished the game and I'm just blown away by all of the questions that were answered. I'm extremely excited to see what Desmond does in the next one however at the same time I don't want AC to end. I still need to gather animus fragments to finish Desmond's story. Is it just me or did Altair's son looked a bit too much like subject 16?

Yes. AC2, ACB, and ACR fix a lot of the repetitiveness from the first one. AC2 is a great place to start, the story may get very confusing very quickly though.
well you need to play AC2 to make sense out of ACB and ACR imo, AC2 should be relatively cheap so go to gamestop get a used copy (unless you're a PC Gamer like me) and if you don't like the game return it and get your money back.

I've been playing it off and on and for some reason I just really don't care what happens in it. It's like, I know I should but it's not grabbing me like 2 did or Brotherhood for a while.
I felt the same way, honestly I rushed through it cause I wanted to find the answers I've been wanting to know for awhile. Overall I'm happy with the game and the multiplayer is fun every now and then.
