Axe-Edit Question

I'm planning on organizing some patches and getting serious with my live vs. recording patch blocks tonight, and I just realized I only have one MIDI cable. I'll be connecting through my Firestudio Mobile. I haven't used Axe-Edit yet but I figured I was set...

Until I remembered I only have one MIDI cable. :ugh:

Can I go "MIDI out" from the Axe-Fx into the FSM "MIDI In" to dump the state of the Axe-Fx memory bank into my computer, and then after editing a bunch of shit flip the cable to the other channel (FSM Out --> Axe-Fx In) and update my unit with the new patch layout and tweaks I've since built in the Axe-Edit software?

There's also a new firmware version available, though it appears to be very minor.

Your MIDI cable only has one connector on each end?

You cheap fucking douche, buy a fucking rack case, and buy a $12 MIDI cable with both ends on it.

What the fuck are you talking about, you goddamn hobo?

Also, I purchased the Rocktron 7-pin MIDI cable for live use, and yes, it's my only MIDI cable (25 feet, pretty well-made):

I did not know there were double MIDI cables... if this is all I need, consider it purchased:

Yes, that's what people who aren't cheap ass hookers with their home studios buy.
Dude, it's a digital signal, is it not? All that matters is that it gets there

A bold faced lie, sir! Only with Monster Cable's patented SürMIDI technology will you have the clarity of signal necessary for total transmission and reproduction of your 8 byte messages. SürMIDI actually eliminates the need for two MIDI cables, since it's so advanced that it can detect messages intended for the neighboring port and figure out where to send them, all on one cable. How does it do it? Fuck you, that's how.

If you're insistent on using non Monster Cables brand MIDI cables, then no, I don't think you'll be able to make it work without two cables (or a dual-headed one), because I'm fairly sure that Axe-Edit needs bi-directional communication to be in place before it agrees to start talking. I could be wrong, though. Just buy the Monster cable and be done with it.

Obviously not. If you have a bad cable, 010010 can easily become 0.75000.90. Which means...TOAN LOSSSSS (Digital information toan that is).
 I just have my cables made out of gold in the vacuum of outer space to ensure OPTIMUM TOAN!
You guys are being morons.

But thank you, Duncan, for clarifying that I do need bi-directional communication for Axe-Edit to work. Since this is not for gigging, I do not require exceptional durability, so I've ordered the "Live Wire" double-headed cable... can't get much cheaper than 3m for $14.
Wirelessly posted (Hivemind: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148a Safari/6533.18.5)

Well SOMEFUCKER is feelkin the grouch today :squint:
Maybe he's just sour because his $2000 preamp isn't in a rack.

Well, he only has one cable, so it'd be Left Side ToAn loss. Haggus can probably help him out. :yesway:

His cable may not even work. He's got the 7 pin, which will not plug into a 5-pin MIDI port.

I use the 7 pin from my Axe FX to power my Lexicon pedalboard. But I use a normal 5 pin MIDI in/out to USB cable to connect the Axe FX to the computer.
Well, it might not work, but at least it's long.

Did you miss the thread where my rack is unfortunately sized?

That's not unfortunate. That's awesome.
