Not what I was expecting. I expected a lot of mindless shredding and that's it, but it's actually quite good; more varied and diverse. I really like how they use the range of the 8-string. Really makes me want one, until I remind myself that I suck.

the first album was really awesome. all kinds of great stuff on it. the 2nd one was uninspired and just bland.
I listened to the first one many dozens of times, and the 2nd one probably 2 or 3 times and i couldnt get into it at all.

Hmm, that's interesting. I almost bought the newer one first, but now I'm glad I didn't. Usually I listen to stuff on Spotify first, but this one I bought blind.

I thought the newer album was more interesting as a single piece. It took a while to grow on me though :yesway:
I wish I liked either album. I thought the first album had a few decent moments, and only briefly heard the 2nd. My biggest complaint? Helen fucking Keller could have dialed in a better guitar tone.

I also don't think Nick has a relative called Helen.

the toans could be a little better. i feel like tosins playing is pretty amazing, but hes kind of sloppy sounding with the thumb and fingering stuff. Granted it lends to his style i think and isnt a knock on his playin. I think thats the sound hes going for. A more precise and and better toan wouldnt work as well with his sound.
I love his playing. Really innovative, I think.

This is the same way I felt. First one - pretty good - different from anything else I had been listening to. Listened to it many times. Really excited for the second album. Got it. Listened to it one time and one time only. Just kind of blah, which is a shame.
Shrug. I bought both and didn't care for either. There's too much wankery for my taste. Too much widdly woo and not enough substance for me to come back. Not to say they aren't all talented as fuck.

:agreed: on these

Once you get past all the hype and give the album an honest chance, it's fantastic and yeah, the guy definitely does some very unique things on guitar. Definitely some 'lightning in a bottle' going on with that album.
I absolutely loved the first album. Totally loved it. The second one I only listened to once, and haven't again. It seemed to lack the song structure and recurring theme that is necessary in instrumental music in order to make it engaging. I can only listen to craziness in short spans, but having a melody in the form of a theme makes a song way more engaging to me.
Man, i'm the total opposite of most of you guys! LOVE the 2nd album, i can't seem to get tired of it. I thought the songwriting and flow was WAY beyond the first album.... not to mention the production and guitar tones being light years beyond.
