Compact rackmixer alternatives for IEM systems?

2168 Views 15 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Lopez
The Behringer X32 Rack is cool and pretty much "industry standard" amongst many smaller bands right now but I wonder if there's any other alternatives that doesn't burn the wallet?

It would be nice not having to deal with local soundtechs and just bring our own IEM mix at every place

The question is: how many inputs do you really need?
Just get the X32 rack.
:agreed: Either that or the Behringer XR18, which is essentially just an X32 that you can control with a tablet.

Yup I've been spotting that one too, looks like a great alternative

Once we have the monitoring mix done it shouldn't need any fast adjustments
However I would really like the inputs on the back of the unit unlike the X Air...

Therefor the X32 still is the one I look at... But its kinda pricey for me...

There's another unit called "RCF M18" which is about half the price but it doesn't have enough XLR inputs

Their digital snake is awesome too. Literally one cat5 cable from the snake to x32 or air variant. Behringer really knocked it out of the park with those mixers and you really don't see any returns on them either. My father is a dealer for Behringer, working mostly with pro audio installs in churches. The X32 is his biggest seller and I don't think he's ever had to return one.
Yup absolutely!

So far very pleased with the X32 Compact
How quick is your setup/tear down time? Changeover between bands is a big deal.

Setup time with just lined GSP1101 should be as much as Kemper/AxeFX we did before we got GSPs = a couple of minutes for guitars, and then drummer... maybe 8-10 minutes max? I didn't count. But it was lighting fast compared to when I used stupid miced up tube amps live.

Setup tiem with IEM I have not tried yet.
But it's just a matter of hooking up some drum mics to a splitter, turning everything on and rock on. We shouldn't even need a soundcheck, except of course the FOH making sure our sound goes out. We wont need to soundcheck our monitoring, at least.

Would you really need all inputs on the IEM? For example if you ditch the toms (which are also hearable on the overheads and on the snare mic) and (at least) one of the three backing vox you are all set. The GSP1101s and click track could go on the line inputs.
Hmmm yeah toms are not really used alot, thats true. Some intros could be useful but nah, we could skip them.

ALSO...

I was thinking Y-cable for the kicks. The drummer seems to prefer double bass drums instead of duble pedal.

That way I could get both kicks on one channel.

1. Kick y-kabel
2. Snare
3. OH
4. OH
5. Lead vox
6. Back vox
7. Back vox
8. Back vox

9. GSP 1
10. GSP 2
11. GSP 3
12. Click

This can definitely work with the RCF M18

Whats the real difference between the "Main out" and "aux"?

Can the "main out" be used to feed the IEM transmitter as well as the "aux" channels?

The Behringer has 8 Aux outs which would be enough but the RCF only has 6 Aux outs

It depends on the routing abilities of the unit and if it actually has another pair of auxes you could use. Pull up the manual PDF and download the tablet controller.

Hmmm.

I just wonder if there's any difference in output level or impedance or some shit like that I have no clue about.

Could look up PDF and let my girlfriend decipher that technical humbug för me

You nitpick guitars all day. Time to nitpick something else lol

Theyre both line level outputs. The app has 6 aux mixes and the stereo mix. You would have to set the aux mixes set to Pre-EQ/Comp/Fader/Mute. You could get 4 stereo IEM mixes off of it.
