I have GuitarRig 4, except with the original silver Rig Kontrol.

I could never get any decent bass tones out of it, but with some tweaking, I could get some pretty good guitar sounds going.

I haven't had it installed in a while since I don't currently have an OS that will run it well (Ubuntu) but once I get my mac in the new year, i'll be loading it back up.

I've been eye-balling this deal all weekend. I've been *this* close to pulling the trigger several times now.

I just couldn't resist... for a little over $200, i got a pretty nice demo/recording rig that also has MIDI capabilities.

I saw a band last year with two guitarists, one was using a Line6 Spider Valve and the other was running Guitar Rig on a laptop into a Peavey combo of some sort, actually sounded really decent.

There are a few things that really interest me about it. The fact that you can put effects anywhere in the chain and manipulate multiple parameters at once gives me the flexibility i'm accustomed to. It's also got a signal split option as well as a "crossover" option, so i can either run a dual-amp setup or even process high and low frequencies separately, which could be interesting. Another cool thing for live use is you can drag your patches into a "set list" and step through the songs with four patches for each song.

Yeah, I've played with the trial version of Guitar Rig 3 and it can do some pretty interesting stuff.

while this situation isn't ideal, they did identify it/refund it and make good on the offer for when they have it in stock. This is more than a lot of companies would do. I think they handled it as well as they could in the situation they were. Of course, it shouldn't have happened but they didn't fuck around at all once they figured out the issue.

Yeah, i know... i'm just a little annoyed that their e-commerce system isn't tied in to any kind of inventory system, and that it took over a week for them to figure it out.

I even opened a support ticket a few days ago to find out what was going on with regard to shipping, because i hadn't heard a thing since i made the purchase, but i didn't even get a response from that.

I'd be annoyed too if it happened to me. I just work in support for an online company so i can sympathize with the other side. Sometimes the actual people don't know something has happened until it's waaay too late. At least you're not getting totally screwed. Also, have you ever used GR4? i played around with one of them before and wasn't able to get a decent distorted sound. I got a really great crystal clean though.

No i haven't, but i've been told it's pretty good. However, i'm thinking this may actually be a good opportunity to take it for a test-drive before they get it back in stock again.

The effects and clean tones are excellent, the mid-gain tones are really decent too. I prefer the Line6 stuff for high gain tones, but I was able to get some very useable tones out of GR4 when I tried it.

Okay, i've cooled off a bit from my initial disappointment.

I've done a lot more digging to see what it can do, and i'm pretty impressed.


All that stuff appears to be Guitar Rig 3, so GR4 should be even more impressive. The modifiers seem like exactly my cup of tea to get some fucked-up sounds.

I'd been kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on that sale, but after reading what happened with you, Darren, I'm fine that I didn't.

The biggest thing I *love* about GR4 is all the tweakability! I mean, for almost every amp you get to tweak the power section, and most effects have advanced parameters as well. Heck, I can mod the tubescreamer model to be a lot like my modded TS7.
