Is there a way to direct mount these without screwing the screw ring on the pickups? I mean that brass thing.

Screw a pickup baseplate onto the bottom of the cavity, use thick rubber tubing on the screws to create stability spacers between it and the pickup you're mounting. If you make sure the baseplate has the smaller diameter 'passive' screw size then the head of it will hold the pickup in and not mess with the threads at all.

In fact, check my 'FU Tone' thread two posts below and I've added some images of how to do it.

Yeah I know your system and thank you for it :)

I forgot to say and without modifying the pickups cavity in any way, but it seems there's no other way.

So the standard thread on quality pickups (not import cheap stuff) is a #3-48 screw. If you can find a smaller screw like a #2 wood or sheet metal screw that is ~1" long you can screw through the holes without messing them up.
