It's not bad so far. about as good as I'd hoped at least.

Duke Nukem Forever Review - Xbox 360 Review at IGN

Closing Comments
Duke Nukem is an icon of mid-1990s video game culture - brash, vulgar and committed to the art of the one-liner, like a twelve-year old boy with internet access. His association with Duke Nukem Forever's extended development cycle has propelled him to legendary status, attaching to him an undeserved significance. Duke Nukem Forever isn't a revitalization of the early days of the first-person shooter genre or a middle-finger to the increasingly complex and sophisticated nature of videogame entertainment. It's a muddled, hypocritical exercise in irritation with solid shooting mechanics and decent encounter design. There's some dumb fun to be had in Duke Nukem Forever, but the game tries hard to ensure it's only fleeting.
Yikes.
I've no idea what critics were expecting. It's fuckin' Duke Nukem! ...Boobs, guns, aliens, and foul language. What more is there to be had from a Duke game?
^ I have to say the use of a regenerating health system and Halo style 2-weapon carry limit is pretty gay, but man the dialogue looks fucking awesome in the worst kind of mid-90s, egotistical jerkoff kind of way

this

i expected some cheap laughs and decent shootem up fun from this and i got what i wanted.

is it better than LA Noir's snoozefest? deffinetly!
PC Gamer sucked its dick as much as was possible.

I haven't played the first and I don't intend on playing this one, but having been somewhat of a PC Gaming enthusiast for the last ten years and foll0wing the PC Gaming world in general its kind of surreal to finally see it released.

Inside details of the developement cycle that I've heard are hilarious though, whenever the lead designer (his name escapes me at the moment) played a game he liked he would walk into the office the next day and insist that ...Forever incorporate the same features or gameplay mechanics.
I don't play many shooters (in fact I don't really game much at all) but if you haven't played it pick up Painkiller. Awesome old school shooter.
Painkiller >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> DNF.

Seriously. My friend has DNF and I played it. Two weapons and regenerating health in a Duke game? Only two or three enemies at once? No armor? Stupid, stupid minigames? Long sections where you don't shoot anything? 45 minute intro which is one giant scripted event where you don't get a gun?

Serious, serious fail.
Yea...I played the demo, and I expected it to suck pretty bad. Let me tell you what: It didn't even meet my expectations.
Duke Nukem is about tasteless shooting while sprinting around mowing down aliens with many many guns. Not hiding behind cover, trading the rocket launcher for the sniper rifle, and waiting for long scripted events and dialogue to finish so I can move on.

Really?

Really?

It's like the biggest cosmic joke ever.

Whatever happened to:

When people refer to "DNF" i always think first of "Did Not Finish".

Somehow seems appropriate.
Meh, you guys all expected something and didn't get it. I didn't expect a damn thing, so i'm fine with it.

I'll just go back to playing Bulletstorm.

The Cynical Brit said pretty much the same thing. If you want a fun, funny, linear spectacle shooter with good guns and good production, play Bulletstorm.

this is pretty much all the game is

yeah you can only carry 2 guns but the levels are literally strewn with guns all over the place, you can NEVER run out of ammo and the enemies keep coming.

This game is a throwback to 90's 1st person shooters and i really have a hard time imagining why anyone would have expected anything different from a game which has been getting designed for almost a decade.

It was never going to be groundbreaking it's got some cheap laughs and a good amount of action it was never trying to be anything else.

I dont remember seeing any press releases saying it was going to re design the first person shooter.

what i do remember is the design team saying it was going to be just like Duke Nukem used to be, which it is!

I loved Bulletstorm, I'm sure I'll like this. I just picked my copy up. I'm not expecting anything less than a straightforward oldschool FPS.
