Holy shit, this is pretty awesome.

American Design Experience | Design Your Own Fender® Guitar or Bass

Fender just opened up a Carvin-esque semi-custom shop for American Standard-level Strats, Teles, J- and P-basses. Price of entry is roughly $1500. You can pick a variety of neck styles (including wrong-handed), vintage/modern hardware, colors, pickups, cases, etc.

Best part? Guaranteed delivery in 90 days, with a satisfaction guarantee (that's you, Jeff).

Of course not. But I already have one of those fine machines. I don't have anything with single-coils in it. :D

Go G&L. Cheaper and you will get a better instrument.

I'm not going with anything as I can't afford an instrument right now. But this is still pretty exciting (and the baseline is not much more expensive than a USA G&L Legacy).

Given the limited number of models, finishes and configurations available, it seems to me that this may more likely be an effort by Fender to rid themselves of a huge unsold inventory of parts than it is a true "custom shop" offering.

To be honest, it's a bit limited and nothing you couldn't get for cheaper by scouring ebay for parts and the like. Not to mention the options are incredibly limited, you can't even do a 5 string bass as far as I'm aware... :noway:
