Can you use DfH or S2.0 or anything? All my drums are still in midi files here from guitar pro tabs so that would definatly help a lot (that's next on my shopping list :lol

i do it all in my DAWs, i spent ~$2000 on plugins and vst instruments(if you have a DI for guitars/bass). I have done a free mix for someone on ss.org and the sent me the midi file for the drums(from gp5) all fucked up. I have battery 3 from native instruments so your drums will sound real to normal ears.

ya take your time, a lot of the songs i get are people half assing their songs and they blame it on the mix.

hell no im too afraid to get caught with that, i got a check from the insurance company from long overdue payments they have been fighting against refunding and decided to pay some of it.

i should have mentioned my sae student discount here are screenshots for non believers(i bought a bunch of stuff from waves, and ik multimedia) although no discount for ikmm...just waves

cant work anywhere because my school is very demanding and taco bell doesnt have a 6am shift i could use. but no you should know how insurances companies are since your house burnt down too. but no im serious about my audio, this is my career...what i want to do with my life. I will honestly never have to buy another plug in for a long time. if you dont want to believe it then dont, not my problem.

My career is in audio too, I've spent a lot of hours in studios learning over the past couple of years, and there is still so much to learn. I sincerely hope that if you have just spent 10 grand on plugins, then you already have a seriously kitted out studio with good acoustics and nice preamps/monitoring. Otherwise that truly was a waste of money.

You dont need an expensive studio for good plugins. but yes i do use my own computer at the studios in SAE, i decided to get a lot of the same plugins that we have in the ssl and icon studios because i enjoyed using them over the stock plugins that come in logic and protools

I understand what you mean, the stock EQ's etc in protools are a bit shit.
However, that still does not justify spending 10 grand on plugins at the point you are at in your 'career'.

What about when you finish at SAE? Where will you record drums? Where will you do your mixing?
True, some people can get pretty commercial sounding mixes at home, but that isn't because they have all the waves plugins or whatever, it's because they have deleoped their ears over probably a long period of time.

What I'm saying is, no amount of plugins can compensate for a poor monitoring environment or cheap preamps and A/D converters. Room acoustics can be fixed through DIY, and that in itself is a massive subject.
That's what you should have spent your money on if you truly are serious about being a studio engineer.

i graduate in december, i completely understand what you're saying. One of the reasons i got them now instead of later in my career is because i only have access to the 25% discount until i graduate. My house will be rebuilt by the time i graduate and i have more than enough money in the bank to rent it out from my mom and live for a few years without work. I plan on buying gear that is "biggest bang for its buck" and only what i need(no ssl, neve or icon).

I am more of a live sound engineer but i will not limit myself to what kind of audio engineering i do. i do have 3 well paying gigs within the next year and having a contract written through an entertainment lawyer. i will not say what they are because people will just flame this thread even more and go even more off topic to the thread topic. This industry is all about who you know, etc.
