How old is it? Is it power pc or intel? There might be an emergency eject button inside the slot itself. Usually it's on the right side and you need to use a paper clip

its an intel - its not even a year old

I macs dont have the inner eject button or the paper clip hole since they are different than regular tray type cd/dvd drives

This may sound stupid, but my GF got a mini CD stuck in her Macbook last year (Iknowrite?) and the solution turned out to be...

...wait for it...

turning it so that the disk slot faced downwards, and shaking it

Worked perfectly.

^ or even holding the left click on your mouse on powerup. That's an eject command as well.

I just tried to see if the slot on the imac at my desk has an emergency eject button inside the slot and I either can't find it or it doesn't have it. There is a space on one side of the slot that a disc never touches so I figured the button would be in there.

EDIT: at least look at the slot to see if there's a round pinhole for a paper clip to insert.

Does it sound like the drive is trying to spin up or eject the disc? It sounds to me like it got physically jammed.
