So, I've been really thinking about getting a laptop. I have a Mac Mini for normal computing (internets, porn, audio production) but want to have something more portable I can take to work or just have lying around in the living room for web browsing, editing excel/word docs for work, listening to mp3's, etc... I'm not really looking to do major number crunching or need to have gigaflops of HD storage. Then the idea hit me, what about an iPad? I have no experience with one, so I'm hoping you guys can help me out here. But the price is far better than even an entry level Macbook. Given my needs, do you think an iPad is a viable option?

Sorta begs the question, does an iPad NOT run certain websites?
I'm anxious to see how much that thing will cost... I'll definitely wait and see though. :yesway:

I've used the iPad quite a bit and really I think it is not that great; it's heavy and cumbersome and is stupid sometimes, like this guy's refused to delete his email account from it -_-; even after rebooting it lol.
Also add the fact that it is too big to type with your thumbs and you can't really set it down and type well because it doesn't actually sit still at all and it just ends up being a terrible experience. If you could do everything with one hand it would be alright but quite frankly you can't and it sucks because of that.

Having actually owned an iPad for several months, I think it's fantastic. Battery life is amazing, and web browsing is fine, except for the obvious lack of Flash.
My MacBook pro is actually on eBay right now, since it never leaves my desk anymore. I'm going to get an iMac.
I don't find it heavy at all, but I guess if you're a sissy you'd find 1.5 pounds heavy :lol:. I do have the full Bluetooth keyboard as well, which blows away any netbook keyboard yet still is lighter overall with the iPad and it in a backpack. That being said I don't use it often because the onscreen keyboard works great.
I do use it for blogging, as well as some spreadsheets and word docs. Also great for note taking. I've got multitrack DAW on it too, which allows up to 24 tracks at 16/44, and will work with various USB mics and audio interfaces.

I love my iPod touch (a small ipad) but it feels limiting at times. Not only flash but maneuverability with web browsing. Copying and pasting is somewhat troublesome because of the touch-type technology. If I wana save a pic to upload to imgur to post on forums, it's a couple leaps. I'd go with a MacBook.
Im also a Facebook user. Their mobile app is frustrating at times as well as mobile apps for other sites as well

Thanks for the responses guys. I totally forgot about the lack of Flash. And while I don't care for flash sites, it's often used, enough to where not having Flash functionality is certainly a turn-off.
I suppose getting a laptop is the best option. I plan on bringing it to work for online ordering and bookkeeping - I'm a chef and rarely have time to step away from the kitchen and into the office. Even then, another manager is usually busy (read: dicking around) using the computer so I'm constantly battling for office time. I unfortunately don't have enough space at the restaurant to set up my own office.
Perhaps a used Macbook/MBP is the way to go. I don't really have a grand or more lying around, and getting a Windows machine isn't something I want to deal with.
