Just because T-Mobile has the iPhone in the Fatherland doesn't mean they'll get it in North America. From what i understand, T-Mobile U.S. is pretty widely regarded as having shit reception and even shittier data service, so i doubt Apple would go with them unless they SERIOUSLY upgraded their network.

It's almost a foregone conclusion that the iPhone will be coming to more carriers (particularly Verizon) when the AT&T exclusivity period is up next year. But any other carriers would depend largely on the state of their infrastructure. Apple doesn't want to give their halo product to carriers with bad networks, because Apple ends up taking a lot of flak for it. (e.g. Antennagate.)

Apparently, Steve Jobs haaaaates AT&T. After the exclusivity, I wouldn't be surprised if he made a version for both Verizon and T-Mobile. (And Sprint! Ok, maybe not...)

Also, there are three new carriers in Canada that share T-Mobiles bands, so while all their subscribers in total probably equals the amount of subscribers that T-Mobile has in one city block, it wouldn't be a bad idea to factor them in when deciding whether to allow T-Mobile to carry the iPhone.

The big thing in the favor of the iPhone on T-Mobile is that it ships with hardware that works on their network. A jailbroken iPhone just requires a SIM card swap to work... it's not totally out of the question.

:spock: I think its pretty far fetched to say they have shitty recpetion. I rarely have issues with Tmobile.
Well, like most carriers in the U.S., there are good regions and bad ones. When i was in NYC a few years ago, everybody there hated T-Mobile because their GSM network was terrible.

So, it's pretty much the same as here  The only reason I'm still with T Mobile is my wife's friend works for them and got me a crazily cheap deal and a free Google G1. T Mobile UK is shit, and we can get T Mobile iPhone's here, so I think you probably will get them in the US.

I loved T Mobiles prices and customer service.....but the service really sucked. Then I switched to Verizon and got a Droid. :yesway: When I was working as a vendor for ATT, the big word was Verizon is getting an iPhone, but the rumor was it wasn't going to be the same iPhone that AT&T has (3GS or 4) it would be a new model of some sort.

Doesn't the US iPhone ship with the 1900mhz radio, where it'd need 1800mhz to be on T-Mobile? According to this it doesn't have 1800mhz, which is what T-Mobile is on...

It'd work on the EDGE network, but not on 3G...

That part I'm not totally clear on. I just know when I had my 2G, it was a common thing to hacktivate a phone and use it on T-Mobile.

EDIT: Maybe since it was EDGE network only, it seemed to be 100% cross network compatible for the time?
