ITT: terrible band names and re-recorded proggy goodness (updated!)

I first recorded this just almost 2 years ago, and have been meaning to re-do it pretty much ever since. One of my favourite songs, written by some friends of mine who never recorded it, but I really wasn't happy with my original recording.

Anyway, finally got round to to totally rehauling it yesterday - re-recorded all of the rhythms, tweaked and re-rendered the drums with my latest S2.0 template, did a fair bit of work on the bass and clean tones, and ditched the cheesy synth I originally had doubling the lead parts. Further to that, I remixed and remastered it. In 2 years time I'll probably do exactly the same again, but I'm much, much happier with it for the moment!

Should anyone wish to download it, it's in FLAC format on SoundCloud, or there's a V0 MP3 here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20808813/no_escape_2011.mp3

Here's an MP3 of the original, for the sake of comparison (it's not very good): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20808813/no_escape_2010.mp3

This is my first time using LePou's LeXTAC for guitars, and whilst these results are by no means perfect, I reckon it could be a pretty excellent plugin when I'm a touch more used to its various idiosyncrasies!

EDIT: D'oh - just realised the band name doesn't even show up... It's "The Placenta Spelunkers". I will say nothing more on the matter.

EDIT 2: Just uploaded an updated mix, which is the one called "No Escape [2011 - Mix 2]", but if you couldn't have worked that out for yourselves I'm amazed you even managed to find the power button for your computer, let alone know what the internet is. The MP3 for THAT version (last one, I promise) is here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20808813/no_escape_2011_mix_2.mp3

Hmmm. Someone over on the site which must not be named said "To my ears everything is completely muffled like under 10 blankets". Same for anyone else? My ears could well be totally numb - shit happens - but I can't get my head around that at the moment. Will give it a listen with fresher ears in a bit. I guess this is something of a disclaimer!

I wouldn't say it sounds completely muffled, I've heard way worse recorded tones than that, however it is a bit dark in places. In places it can get a tiny bit indistinct too, but only if thats what you are trying to listen for.

Cheers Stu! Been working on an updated mix for the last couple of days, I have added to the OP. Changes I've made (in response to various complaints/bits of advice from across the board):

Widened the stereo image of the bass for the clean sections,
Worked on the EQ and level of the kick,
Added a fair bit of automation to the drums,
Changed the rhythm tones quite a bit, and edited the guitars a little,
(I think) slightly improved the lead tone,
Added a fair bit of automation all over the shop,
(I think) slightly improved the mastering!

...And probably other even more boring stuff. God I'm not looking forward to doing this for a whole album. Acoustic music is so much goddamn easier to mix, haha.

The new one does sound better. It's not a night and day difference, but I don't think the original needed that anyway, I'm liking this.
