I run an HS set up, which I have on my charvel. It started out as HH but it didn't stay that way for long. I love the functional diversity of HS.

I've had a few true single coils, some hum free singles, and some single coil sized humbuckers. Best of the bunch was the Dimarzio Chopper, but I currently have a Seymour Duncan STK-S1n, which is a noiseless single that comes in a lot of HSS Jackson's.

It's... ok. Underpowered and a bit vanilla.

Anyway since I keep seeing rave reviews about the Irongear stuff I grabbed one of their rail singles

IronGear Pickups - Jailhouse Rail II

Should arrive tomorrow.

Anybody used them?

Name rolls right off the tongue.
Sounds like a vintage police themed porn series that started out classy like a more explicit rip off version of Shaft (his catch phrase is, "You've just been railed" while he looks directly at the camera and some horn heavy music plays) but the titles started out oblique and clever but got more and more tasteless as time went on.

Every time you guys post something from this brand I go to their site, and it makes me want to buy a pickup. The exchange rate would make it less than a deal, though .
Not only that but they ridiculously bumped up their shipping prices to insane values some time ago... We can't choose any other shipping option except DHL...

25 pounds (31 dollars/28 euros)for shipping a fucking pickup???

I like my Irongear Steamhammer in one of my guitars, but I've had 2 others, and they sound quite different.
I have only kept one.

The two I gave up on were way too "ice picky" in the treble. I know I fucking RAVED about them but I had never tried a pickup that trebly before and thought it was so clear and clarity... But in the end I learned to dial my amp tones better and then I started like other pickup tones instead... But yea, one Irongear Steam Hammer is still great

So they are definitely not very consistant from copy to copy

I can't make any sweeping generalisations based on this one experience, but their description of this pickup is way off. It's Muddy, it's boomy, it's got literally no sparkle or spank to it What so ever. Like it's hooked up to a permanently rolled-off tone knob.

I was only trying it to avoid the expense of a Duncan Hot Rails but fuck it, buy nice or buy twice huh....
