I was watching some old Dio videos and got sidetracked into some '80s nostalgia. Ratt was one of my favourite bands as i was coming of age. It was just so sad to watch them fall so far, so fast, largely due to Robbin Crosby's substance abuse issues. And especially sad to see Crosby's own downward spiral documented so painfully... he went from being a huge rock god to being a bloated, drunken, heroin-addicted mess.

Man, Robin and Warren were always a huge influence on my writing. Ratt was definitely my favorite band of the era, and ranks way up there in my favorites of all time. Tragic shit, what Robin did to himself. :(

Count me as another huge RATT fan. There was just something about their music that so perfectly captured that mid 80's vibe. Out of the Cellar and one of the all-time great rock/metal albums, Invasion of Your Privacy, are still constants I listen to again and again.

Great band. :yesway:

yeah, truly sad what happened to Robin. he definitely got overshadowed by Warrren in that band (and rightfully so), but he was a great guitarist and songwriter in his own right. his solo in "Drive Me Crazy" still stands as one of my favorites ever laid to tape on a Ratt record.

I really dont care what they looked like, please you cant tell me Ratt did much better, anyone that wore spandex can not throw rocks at poison. TO be to the point, I love 80's metal, glam, speed, thrash and everything in between. With that being said, bands like crue and poison did not write the most difficult music, however the songs were fun to listen too and catchy.

Just so you dont think i am being a dick, which i can be, My three favorite bands growing up were Motley Crue, Ozzy and Ratt, Loved the first poison album but then only liked a few songs here or there from there later work.

Ratt were definitely one of the first bands to identify women as one of their key audiences, wearing spandex and makeup and sporting huge hair to appeal to the chicks in the audience. But they also had the songwriting chops and the skills to actually deliver good music as well.

Yeah, I'd say song writing-wise... Ratt always felt a little more mature than a lot of their peers (Motely and Poison). Something about their progressions and melodies felt more interesting overall and less "canned". That's IMO, of course.

OK time to put this back on track, lets talk about Ratt and not about which 80's band is gayer. By the way we all know Dokken ruled them all......
You tell us to stop talking about Poison and then immediately tell us how Dokken is better. Not disagreeing, Dokken is better than Poison, but way to un-derail the thread and immediately derail it in the same post.

You can call poison gay all you want, but in the end one of them has probaly slept with more chicks then all the members on this board combined, I wouldnt really call that gay.
I don't care how many chicks they slept with, their music still fucking blows. You can't even put them in the same sentence as Motley Crue or Ratt, since they were just another band full of trend followers who moved to LA and put on the uniform. I actually find it funniest that once everyone was dressing up in spandex and teasing their hair, Motley Crue ditched it and started wearing the classic metal denim and leather. That was a big fuck you to everyone ripping them off.
