After one listen, I'm finding that it lacks hooks. It's coherent, but almost too coherent, if that makes sense.

It'll probably grow on me.

Exactly, there are no overly catchy riffs like the ones in Goliath, umbra, deadman etc.

The bass guitar tone on this album is crushing. I find myself remembering drum "riffs" rather than guitar riffs on this album. Still better than Sound Awake in my opinion.

This album is less guitar centric, in terms of traditional riffs. They leave the bass to be the main rhythm instrument, and the guitars are much more loose and open. Personally, I love that, as some of my favourite albums have always been those where the bass and drums hold down the structure of the song, leaving the guitarist(s) free to play around the song instead of being the driving force, and then locking in when appropriate.

I'd still say sound awake is much better. But that's just to me who doesn't play bass or drums and prefers catchy guitar riffs.
