Thought it was tacky when ESP did that "album cover guitars" with Slayer, and when Jackson did it with Anthrax, but I was definitely not expecting King Crimson to get in on that action with a budget PRS model.

Granted it's not Fripp's model, but he is King Crimson, obviously he signed off on this.

I like King Crimson, but the only thing that could possibly make snobby King Crimson elitists more insufferable is hybridizing them with snobby PRS elitists.

I'm a bit surprised Fripp signed off on this, actually. On the other hand, maybe Fripp is fine with Jakko making a few bucks off this...it's not like he's getting any publishing since he's never appeared on a KC studio album.

Fripp has never had a signature model, interestingly. He's still playing those Fernandes LP copies with the Kahler, I believe.

Right? King Crimson is supposed to be synonymous with extremely progressive "respects artistry" types. They are the last band I would expect to do an import line with tacky album cover graphics. As you say, Fripp has never had a signature, so it's bizarre to see the other guy get a King Crimson signature model.

*Granted, I think he has released some guitars under his name for the NST Guitar Craft stuff. Not sure if it's guitars or just strings and other shit. It's funny though, because the whole point of that Guitar Craft is offering something far removed from traditional "mainstream" guitar circles, and this is exactly the opposite. He's always been very adamant about controlling every element of his NST Gutiar Craft stuff to maintain high quality, so licensing this out to PRS is just bizarre.

Then again, Fripp did work with Microsoft making sounds for Windows Vista, so maybe he is more into commercialism and making a quick buck than we thought. Start me up: The sound of Vista - Technology & science - Tech and gadgets | NBC News

That's not even getting into "Heartbeat". I dig that song a lot, but there is no doubt that was an attempt to cash in on mainstream trends. Fucking great song though.

Fripp's never been against making money (maybe even a living) off of music. Hell, he spent years on his blog slagging his old management for allegedly ripping him off.

He seems quite practical in that way, in fact. He's also said that he made the money he has today off of real estate, not music. I've also noticed more of a willingness on his part in recent years to actively capitalize on the early KC years.
