Just curious to what some of you guys do to inspire yourself to write lyrics, or some new ways to write lyrics.

My new project is way different from anything i've ever done. Its really heavy, low tuned, hard rock/country/fusion basically. I think my main problem is I have never wrote lyrics for this type of thing, and it needs a sleazy, bad guy/outlaw vibe to it, and my last project, a power/doom band we mostly wrote about horror movie...... I don't like old western movies, so to no avail there. :lol:

Maybe live the subject of the lyrics a little more? Base it off of shit that goes down, find inspiration from the world around you.

Dude, you can write about whatever the hell you want. You could write lyrics about being a superhero from Jupiter if you want. Whether the lyrics match the music completely just has to do with stereotypes and how people visualize stuff. You could play music like that and write lyrics about deep psychological issues if you want. :shrug: Write about what you want to write about.

Clutch does a pretty good job of that sort of thing. Listen to "Electric Worry," "Regulator," and "Profits of Doom" for some inspiration... the lyrical content is all over the place but it fits that style of music very well.

Also, play Red Dead Redemption a little bit.

"Regulator" was the first Clutch song I ever heard, and it's still my favorite. Neil Fallon's voice is godly.
