:agreed:

Yes, yes it will.
It will get you in the ball park of a JCM800 and close enough for most people, way more flexible and tons of bass and gain on tap. If you want balls out heavy metal get the green revision, if you want sometime where you can play with different levels of gain get a blue revision or a twin jet. The older version gain taper is no the greatest.

Wirelessly posted :)dio:)

AWESOME fucking preamp. I like better than the TriAxis, actually.
I like the triaxis better, way more variety. The JMP1 does great plexi to Hot Rodded JCM800 tones but it is pretty much that and only that. I ran it through the 50/50 5881 Marshall Power amp (heard the 100/100 EL34 is better) with a BBE maximizer and SD1 for boost and it was great sounding for that sound.

So basically if you want the Marshall sound with 128 presets so you can slightly adjust that sound then yes it is great, but considering most of the distortion comes from clipping diodes there are a lot better choices, I feel most of the modelers these days sound better.

The second you run your signal through a OD (SD-1, TS, Klon, KoT, etc.) you're running it through clipping diodes.
That depends whether or not you are using the gain knob of the pedal to make distortion. When I use boosts I just use the pedal to boost the front so the pedal Is not actually making any distortion it is just forcing the tubes to distort more by increasing the line level. So no I am not using diode clipping with the way I use my boost on my rectifiers or any other really high gain amp.

Now with my JCM800 I use gain up and level up so yes I am using diode clipping to add more gain/distortion to my signal.

That's not entirely true, depending on the pedal. Some pedals have a minimum set clipping level, so even if the gain is down all the way, you're still using diode clipping. Again, depending on the pedal. See this week's Chasing Tone podcast where Brian Wampler talks about it.

OK I will give you that, but it is so minimal compared to an amp or the JMP1 that over 50% of the gain/distortion is diode clipping.

Also do not get me wrong, I am not saying there is anything wrong with it some great songs have been written with a fuzz pedal or even a good OD into an amp. Just saying for my money I would rather by a used Original Line 6 Pod Pro to run right into a power amp and save myself about $200 to $300 and I have more tones on tap besides Marshall Distortion and I will also have built in effects.

Just a point of clarification - unless you have a OCD style boost where you can lift the diodes out of the signal path, you're going through the diodes regardless of the setting of your gain knob.

Anyway, the diode clipping has been a common criticism of the unit. Good tone is good tone, regardless of how you get there. :2c:

For my money, I'd rather have a Silver Jubilee with diode clipping, than a shitbox POD.

Could also look for a soldano hot rod - more cost effective than an uberschall.

Still a difference of using diode clipping for gain and just going through, but I get your point, I mean unless you are plugging directly into a all tube amp you are still going through diodes... etc...

So would I and I would also like a nice sports car and a hot woman on my arm, but since I am not super rich I get a pod pro going through a Mesa 2:90

I'm trying to figure out how we went from a great tube preamp to a shitty first gen modeler.

I'm also trying to figure out how someone who's not super rich buys thousands in LP's, but thinks a $1800 head is expensive. ;)

This. Toss keeps singing the praises of the POD 2.0, and I keep thinking he's fucking crazy. I borrowed one for the cover band for a while, and even the singer said I sounded like shit.

Going through a power amp it sounds great and I am also talking about the Pro (rack mount version), you are talking about the kidney bean, the pro sounded a lot better, but key word is going through a power amp into a cab, I have never been a fan of Line 6's cab modeling. The preamp is on par with the JMP1, have you ever tried the soldano model is awesome.

Because I just bought a 2K les paul I cant afford an 1800 dollar head LOL. But serious I would never consider the JMP1 a Great tube preamp, it is good but not great. I think the ADA blows it away as well as many others.
